The state of Virginia's capital, located in Richmond was absolutely beautiful, but it was too pristine. Many of the rooms had been completely redone in the early 1900's and we were expecting to see a building that was redone to it's original state in the late 1700's. None the less, we had a fascinating tour guide that spoke reverently about the capital andshe was really interesting.
Steps leading to the side of the capital, the grounds were
very unique and certain areas were breathtaking.
The most unique part of the capital was the stone carving of Washington that is in the foyer on the third floor.. It was hand chiseled from 1 piece of stone and it took 3 years. The attention to detail was amazing, from the individual hairs on his head to the tip of his boots.
After we toured the capital we played golf at the Hunting Hawk. We had a 1215 tee time and we were paired up with a couple of young men. They were heavy hitters and yet they were so nice to us "not so heavy hitters". Even our not so good shots were met with friendly words and encouragement. We had a fun time and we encouraged them to go off the back nine before us, and the gracefully accepted and yikes they were out of sight in a matter of minutes. We started the back nine with a retired man that also could hit the ball "a mile". After 3 holes on the back nine we called "Uncle" it was 85 degrees and 75-80% humidity and our golf game was in the tank and so were we.
It was a beautiful course, but very challenging at times.
Tomorrow we are going to see our first "harness race"
