Capitol of Michigan-Lansing

6/11/12 This capitol had several unique features, which we have not seen in other capitols.

The above flags are replicas of the flags that the civil war soldiers carried into battle and the plaque below depicts the specifics of the troops.

Michigans state seal is imprinted on all the hinges and  door handles in the capitol.
House chamber- when a representive is given the oppurtuinity to speak he goes to the center aisle to one of the small podiums and the microphone is turned on, if he stays past his time the microphone is turned off.

The original ceiling in the House of Representatives were made of  ruby and white hand etched glass- and they were lost years ago. When the restoration was completed in April 1990 the etched glass had been replaced with the coat of arms for each state, made of plastic.
Hall of past govenors on the second floor over looking the rotunda.

Wouldn't let us sit in the supreme court chairs, just barley allowed us our picture

Looking down Michigan avenue from the 3rd floor of the capitol.

When leaving through the backdoor of the capitol, we followed the brick road to the Law and Justice building, hoping to see where the supreme court is now held, but the tours were full with Michigan school children. It was a beautiful building and the entrance was very impressive, a guard sitting behind the desk with a suit and tie on.

We went into a  homemade pie restaraunt to get something to drink and ended up with apple crumb pie and a lemon bar..Doesn't get any better than this for lunch.

  1. Ron & Kathy, Norene and I enjoyed lunch with you at the Eagle Tavern today. Enjoyed reading your adventure at Ducker's Pond, the burbon wasn't too bad either. The best to you on the rest of your adventure, Rodg
