Indianapolis track and Brickyard golf

We had a fabulous day that was one of a kind. (5/30/12)We played golf at one of the 100 top rated golf courses-as rated by Golf Digest. We got to the course  early and had time to get ourselves organized and visit with some of the men that worked there. Each one of them were very friendly and personable. Our tee time was at 0700 and the next folks tee time was 0900-we had the whole course to ourselves and the course was as beautiful as any park we have seen. We felt like the king and queen of golf.

When you tee off there are different colored markers that designate which tee you use, I always use the red (closer to the hole)  and Ron uses the white (further from the hole), on this course the markers were brick with painted edges. This course is right next and part of the Indy 500 race track. When the track went from a dirt tract they used bricks to pave the surface of the track, and when the bricks started to deteriorate-that is when the track was paved.

This is us prior to us teeing off, the staff bring the golf carts to you, help you load your clubs and take you to the tee, then they explain the course rules and answer any questions you might have.

This is a SAND TRAP!!

Holes 7-10 were in the infield of the Indy 500 track, what an experience, we played on Wednesday May 30th and the race was run on the 27th. The course is closed during the race, and yikes the garbage that was still on the ground of the viewing area was unbelievable. The same people that own the racetrack own the golf course.

This is the tunnel from 1 side of the course to the inside on the race track and holes 7-10.
This is where the men's white tees were for Ron to tee off-I was much closer and on the side of the bridge.
After we finished our game-a man named Tom Smith who was a native from in Indianapolis took us in his golf cart for a tour of the track- He was very informative, and super friendly, he has gone to 61 straight Indy races and was a great guide with super stories to tell us. We have been so blessed in our travels to meet many people that take extra time with us and share their insight and stories with us about the places that we are visiting.

On the 27th, when the race was run there was between 300,000-400,000 people in attendance. What a great day we had!!! Loving this journey!!
