Atlantic ocean and Woodland cable ferry

We left early this am to go look at the beaches on the Atlantic ocean and the surrounding area in southern Delaware. This is a new bridge on the costal hiway 1 that connects two of the islands.

We were surprised at the lack of wind and the amount of people that were on the beach before 10am. There were umbrellas and people as far as we could see. Lots of families with children running in the sand and having a great time. We did not go into the water, but we enjoyed other peoples antics.

We talked to a young man and he suggested if we wanted "real Delaware" seafood we should go to the resteaunt in Ocean City, and we both really like seafood.. Don't let the picture below fool you -it was some of the worst food we have eaten yet and it was $29.00-what a rip!!

Hush puppes at 1100 (burnt) fresh corn (old and dry)1100 on the plate-prawns (tuff) 3 scallops( rubbery) crab cake-(gooey/gluey) 2 clams (tuff and dried out and the bacon was really tuff and chewey) and last but not least Fresh? white fish(watery and stringy)
This is a sample of the size of blue crab you can get-we opted for blue crab crab cake YUK!!

In one of the Delaware tourist books I read about the oldest cable ferry in operation in the US. It was out of our way to go see it, and we had some reservations about it, but we were certainly glad that we went. We parked our car on one side and then walked on and the captain invited us up to his (wheelhouse) and we rode across  and back 3 timess. It was great fun and he made the day for us. The ferry holds 6 cars and the crossing takes about 5 minutes and it is free.
Taken from the wheelhouse.
Taken off the back of the ferry, just to the right of the middle you can see the cable.

In the wheelhouse with the captain. Come to find out the captain had lived in Port Townsend, Yakima and Ballard. He had a child born in each city.
