On Sunday we were visiting with our neighbors behind us and they said they had never been to a dog race, Ron did the research and the dog track (10 miles away) had a post time of 12:15 on Monday. The 4 of us had a great time (vowing that this day of dog racing was our first and last), our bets were always placed on the last dog or 2 of each race. But, it was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon getting to know a new couple.
After the dogs are weighed and checked out by an official they are kept behind a fence and 1-2 dogs are randomly picked for a urine sample and then tested for drugs.
The dogs are then paraded in front of the grandstands for all the spectators to look over.
After the dog parade they are led into the starting gait, where they are lifted into their starting slot.
An electric rabbit (Sparky) is given the starting shot and whips by the dogs and the gaits open up and the dogs hit the track like a rocket. It was a great afternoon and then we came home and got ready for our first day of the LPGA tournament.
