The Anasazi Indians cliff dwellings are more than 700 years ago. They were moved about 100 years ago and put under this protective red sandstone overhang.
Next to the Cliff Dwellings is a three story Pueblo style building that houses a museum and a gift shop. We have been in many many gift shops, but this was by far the most unique. Ron even had fun browsing.
He is on the third floor. The front never had entrances-the only entrance was on the second and third floor. A ladder was put on the side of the dwelling and used as steps-when nightfall came or during battle the ladder was pulled inside.
What beautiful scenery-the rocks were so big and the red color was breathtaking.
To walk to the top of the falls, you walked thru the gift shop and then up 256 steps (almost straight up). We thought at first, we would walk to the top! Yikes way to steep and scary for us. I am truly impressed with Stacie and Tony-On their vacation in the spring-they walked up and down!!
For the people (like us) we rode an elevator to a platform for viewing of the falls. The seven falls has 7 distinct levels where the water platforms and then spills onto the next platform. It was just beautiful!!
The surrounding canyon was just gorgeous- and all the potted planters were so colorful.
The stairs to the top were all as steep or steeper than those is the background!!
The chipmunks were all over, such beggars for food.We saw one that got up on a table and actually was trying to eat off a man's lunch plate! brazen little buggars.
