Heading toward Tuscan 8.24-8.27.2004

On the night before we left we all of a sudden developed air conditioning problems-it would run for a minute and then quit. We decided to try the generator to see if we could kick start the air conditioner-our trusty always ready generator would not start. However we were going to be in Salem for 10 days and we had our favorite electrician with us, so we left after the guys played golf on Friday the 24th.

We arrived about 2pm in Salem and plugged the rig into 50 amps, Ron came in and turned the battery disconnect switch on and immediately heard the crackle of fire. He looked up toward the passenger side upper compartment and flames were already reaching for the ceiling. He grabbed the fire extinguisher and put the fire out  and then ran out of the rig and unplugged us from power. Our inverter had caught on fire. We called an RV repair guy and he came and checked us out. We were impressed that he would come out on a Friday afternoon. He jury rigged the TV and when he went to look at the transfer switch, it had burned out and our converter was not working correctly either.

We had quite a mess on our hands and the generator still did not work. At that point he thought the generator was a completely different problem..WOW was he wrong. He hard wired our transfer box and called his office gal to order new parts and he said we would be ready to leave by Monday the 1st of September. He brought the parts out on Friday August 25th, the inverter was not the right size. After we  were hard wired, we realized that both of our clock radio's had burned out.

Since our generator still did not work and he needed to hard wire the inverter wires we needed to stay Monday night and be at his shop at 9am Tuesday morning. To make a longer story shorter, it took until 4pm to figure our that the generator elelctric panel had been shorted because of the other electrical problems we had. We did not get to Salem until 6pm.. What a day!!!
We went to Fairview Oregon with Jim and Lynda Anderson and Walt and Billie Cothran to be Marshals during the Portland Classic LPGA tournament. Even with the trials and tribulations with our rig we had a great time. So fun to spend time with good friends. We laughed, ate, went to the golf tournament, ate, played golf and ate some more.
Such fun!! Ron shot an all time low score of 43!!

Our guys bar-b-q'd steak for us um um good!!

Ron's birthday breakfast at Walt and Billie's rig. Cinnamon rolls from Shari's and a Cinnobon!! Yikes Ron was in hog heaven!!

The 6 of us went to Saltys on the Columbia  for Ron's dinner- we had a great time.
Ron's birthday cake!!
