Lousinana Old governors mansion-Baton Rouge

The tour we had at this historical site was like no other. It was a 2 hour tour with a docent that was 93 soon to be 94 years old. He was delightful and the time just flew by with his wit and historical facts.

The mansion was built in 1929 by Governor Huey P. Long, "the Kingfish".

In the days that this mansion was built there were no closets, so the
"steamer  trunk" on the left was also used as a chest of drawers.
During the time that this mansion was build and furnished many of the workman were from the state penitentiary. The frame below is made from cigar boxes that were treated and carved by inmates.

Recreation room.

Interesting antique card holder
The mansion had 7 bathrooms in 7 different colors, each porcelain fixture matched.
There was pink, green, violet, yellow and several more colors in the bathrooms.

Original quilt made from Huey Long's neckties.

The wall paper in the formal dining room was made in France, the wallpaper was stamped with wooded stamps with the color.  The colors were so vibrant, the scenery and figures told a story around the room.

We had a great time!!
